Mo’s Avocados at Roger’s Gardens

A perfectly ripe, pesticide-free avocado, locally grown and with a Roger’s Gardens connection.

For over 35 years Guillermo Solis has meticulously maintained the gardens of the owners of Roger’s Gardens, the Herbert Family. But his expertise with plants is not limited to gardens, Mo, as all his friends call him, is also an expert avocado grower. On several acres in Fallbrook, Mo has planted, nurtured and cultivated a few hundred of the best avocados in all of San Diego County.

For decades, Mo has overseen the spectacular Herbert gardens in San Clemente, rotating the flower beds, pruning, feeding and nurturing the plants. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the gardens are among the most spectacular in Southern California

But when the weekend arrives, Mo makes the drive to Escondido to tend to his avocado orchard, often with his wife, children and friends joining him. First, it was just a little patch of land and handful of young trees. Then a few more and then a few more. It’s now a full working orchard.

Mo is a master plantsman. He doesn’t need pesticides. He learns the rhythms of the plants, the seasons, and the soil. The trees grow beautifully and bear fruit prolifically. They’re big, beautiful, and healthy, each bearing huge, perfect avocados.

These are not the little, undersized fruit from Mexico, these are big grade #1 fruit, big enough to fill your hand, or make a hefty bowl of delicious guacamole.
